According to statistics from the JRAIA, domestic shipments of RACs in 2016 estimates at 8.8 mil-lion units, up 2.7 % compared with 2015.
In 2016, since Japan experienced many hot days from around May, it was expected that intense heat waves would come in summer. However, the intensely hot spell did not last as long as expected. RACs shipped in the first half (January- June) of 2016 totaled 4.4 million units, up about 83,000 units, or 2%, compared with the same half of the previous year. In June and July RAC shipments increased consider-ably but in August RACs did not sell well since there were many days that were affected by unseasonably cooler weather.
Annual total shipments of PACs in 2016 estimates at 762,000 units, down about 1.5%. This seems to be attributable to the continuation of negative growth from January to March 2016. Starting in April, however, shipments began rallying. Although the yearly total will likely end with negative growth, investment in equipment is expected to increase positively responding in the context of ongoing redevelopment projects in the lead-up to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
