2. 2 EUROPE
2017/05/28
Europe experienced a year of upheaval in 2016. The people of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union (EU), triggering the ‘Brexit’. Russia and Turkey are experiencing turbulent political and economic situations.

Although the turmoil negatively impacted the overall European air conditioning market in 2016, the VRF sector still enjoyed consider - able growth. JARN estimates that the overall European VRF market grew by 18.1% in 2016 and sales reached about 150,100 units. Turkey, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy are major regional markets, accounting for more than 55% of the total European VRF market.

As the Japanese manufacturers introduced VRFs into Europe 20 years ago, the VRF culture has become deeply rooted and is flourishing in the region. Recently, sales of mini-VRFs account for 22% of the total VRF sales in Europe. The mini-VRF market is still growing in contrast with the slowdown in other air conditioning sectors such as chillers. Mini-VRFs are mostly used in small offices and stores. Most Japanese companies reported higher mini-VRF sales in 2016, while commercial VRF sales growth slowed.
