Control and Instrumentation Part II
2017/11/23
--Continued from October Issue
Central monitoring and control of various types of building equipment and systems

To achieve central monitoring and control of a whole building, integral management and control systems used for air conditioning systems such as variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems are necessary, as are various other types of equipment and systems such as lighting, elevators, power distribution, and disaster prevention features. This is true for the configuration of the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) that manages energy in the building as a whole. In such a situation, mutual communication on the basis of a common protocol is required for the central monitoring and control system, BEMS, and various types of equipment and systems in the entire building. BACnet and LonWorks are typical world-class standards applying to such protocols.
