When the indoor environmental quality of office buildings is good, the people who work in those buildings are more comfortable, enjoy better health, and are more satisfied and productive in their jobs. In homes as well, the quality of the indoor air environment affects the health of the occupants. Any structure, whatever its purpose, needs to be built with awareness of the importance of providing a high-quality indoor air environment for all users.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the quality of the air inside a building and impacts the health and wellbeing of the people who spend time in the building. Understanding and managing common indoor contaminants helps reduce indoor risks that are health concerns. These health concerns from airborne contaminants inside buildings can surface immediately after exposure or many years into the future.
