The summer in 2021 saw unprecedented cool weather in some parts of Europe. Overall, the temperature in Europe was cool until May.

Starting in July, the high pressure in the north was extreme, and cold air gathered in the northern parts of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, where it remained stagnant. The warm and humid summer air from the Mediterranean met the cold air from the north, causing intense thunderstorms. Floods occurred in Germany and Belgium, and tornadoes swept across the Czech Republic, damaging many houses.
