Amul to Invest US$ 617 Million to Set up Milk Processing Plants
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk products under the Amul brand, will invest Indian rupee (INR) 50 billion (about US$ 610 million) over the next two to three years, largely in milk processing plants across the country – giving a boost to demand for cold chain facilities from milk collection points in villages to consumers’ homes. This was announced by Jayen Mehta, managing director at GCMMF on July 5. “We would be adding about 15 to 16 new plants, as we plan to go closer to the consumers,” said Mr. Mehta.
